FAQ/League Rules

LEAGUE FORMAT:

Registration:
To register for a season please complete the Registration Form on the Registration Page. Please note that registration will be open for 2 weeks prior to each season. No registrations will be allowed outside of this window.

League Duration:
Each season will run for 5 weeks with additional weeks of play for those players who make the "top cut." The format will be 5 weeks of swiss pairings followed by a "top cut" of single elimination games.

Top Cut:
After 6 weeks of swiss pairings the top X players will advance to the single-elimination top cut. X will be defined depending on the size of the field:
20 players or less: top cut of 4
21 - 40 players: top cut of 8
41 -99 players: top cut of 16
100 - 199 players: top cut of 32
200 or more players: top cut of 64
*(Note – divisions will have no bearing on the Top Cut. It will be the top X players, regardless of division)

Participation:
Please only register for this league with the intention of playing for the entire 6 week period (or longer for those players making the top cut). Even if you start out 0-3 or 0-4 it is important that you honor your commitment and participate all season. Other players are counting on you.

Weekly Matches:
You will play one game against your opponent per week. Each week will run Monday thru Sunday (ending at 10 PM Central Time). All matches must be reported by this time. Matches not reported by the deadline will result in 0 points for both players.

Scheduling and Reporting Matches:

Scheduling a Match:
Pairings will be posted on this website on Sunday nights/Monday mornings. I will also announce the pairings on the Conquest forums at cardgamedb and the Conquest Facebook Page.

*Once announced it is the responsibility of each player to contact one another using the Private Messaging system at cardgamedb.com and schedule a time to play their game.

*Please contact your opponent no later than Wednesday evening, 11:59 PM Central Time. If you do not then you give them the right to report the match as a win for themselves due to a scheduling conflict.

Scheduling Conflicts:
While it is understandable that you may be unable to play your match on a given week because of scheduling conflicts please let the other player know. If your opponent is unable to play due to a scheduling conflict then please report the win condition of "Concession (game not played)" for yourself. This is what is known as a Modified Win.

There are NO Ties:
If the game can not be scheduled because both parties equally share the burden of not being able to schedule a match then the players will need to randomly decide among themselves as to who should be the winner/loser. Alternatively, they can both choose to not be awarded any points by having one of the players report the match and, under win condition, selecting "Game not reported (double loss)".

Not Being Able to Contact Your Opponent:
If you do not hear back from the player you are paired up against and have made multiple efforts to contact them but received no response then you report the game as a win for yourself, under the win condition of "Concession (game not played)". In this situation please go to the Report Match Result link and enter your win. There is an option on the drop down menu to report this type of win condition. This counts as a Modified Win. Below this is a second question asking if you were able to make contact with your opponent. Please answer this as it helps me determine who to drop, if needed. Remember that screenshots can be taken as proof that the other player is not responding to your PMs.

Waiting on Your Opponent:
If you are more than 30 minutes late to the agreed upon time then you give your opponent the right to report the match as a Modified Win (Concession - Game Not Played) for themselves due to a scheduling conflict.

Reporting a Match Result:
*It will be the winner's responibility to report a match result. Please click on the "Report Match Result" link on the right hand side of this page to do so. Please enter your win only once, navigate away from the "report a match result" page when done, and DO NOT enter your match result if you were the loser.

Bye Week:
Any given player may experience a Bye Week if there are an odd number of players. A Bye Week will be assigned as a victory, netting the player the full 5-point value for a win. There is no need to report this type of Match Result. A The Black Crusade admin will enter your win automatically if/when the Bye Week matchup is announced.

LEAGUE RULES:

Scoring:
Scoring was updated prior to the Fall 2016 season to further reflect FFG's own scoring policy.
Victory - 5 points
Modified Victory: Win by concession (Game not played) - 4 points
Loss - 0 points

Time Limit:
There are no time limits to The Black Crusade league games. Games on OCTGN can take much longer than normal due to the limitations of a chatbox versus real life conversation. Please be sure to give yourself plenty of time to play your games - at least an hour and half or so. If one player must drop out mid-game due to a time restraint it is considered a loss via "Concession (in-game)".

Decks:
Normal deck-building rules apply. You do not have to play the same deck week to week. You can change between matches - your deck/warlord/faction/ally choice may all change from week to week. No deck registration is necessary. If you "pledged your loyalty" to a certain Warlord when you registered you can still change your Warlord choice between games but will no longer be able to win a "pledge your loyalty" prize. If your opponent notices that you have an illegal deck (more than the legal limit of copies per card, a loyal card from an ally faction, etc) they can call you on it and win the game then and there if they so choose, or they can work it out with you in game - their discretion.

Legal Cards:
All existing War Packs, Deluxe Expansions and Champion Cards produced by Fantasy Flight Games are legal for Black Crusade League Play. In addition to this, the fan-made expansion The Eye of Terror will also be considered legal. If you use any other fan made cards aside from The Eye of Terror your opponent has the right to win the game then and there. If you notice your opponent(s) playing illegal cards please report your findings to a BCL admin (screenshots work well, too).

Tiebreakers:
Tiebreakers are based on Strength of Schedule. If there is still a tie then the tiebreaker will be determined by Extended Strength of Schedule (the combined average SoS of a person's opponents).

Being Dropped From the League:
If you fail to make contact with your opponent 2 or more times you will be dropped from the league. If you fail to Report a Match 2 or more times you will be dropped from the league. Note - if you are the loser in a game that has not been reported 2 times you will be dropped under these rules but please feel free to message me, explaining this circumstance and I will happily add you back in.

Code of Conduct:
While The Black Crusade is considered a competitive league it should nonetheless be a fun and entertaining experience for all. If instances of rudeness, cheating, questionable play, "rage-quitting" or other forms of poor behavior are reported a The Black Crusade administrator will have the power to penalize (up-to and including an immediate dropping of a player from league play). So, be nice!!!

OCTGN Etiquette:
A few things to point out:
1) It is often accepted that it is the responsibility of the player with the initiative token to end the turn. Please verify this with your opponent before the end of turn 1 - and make sure both players pass on HQ actions before ending a turn.
2) Either type pass in the chatbox or select ***Player X is DONE*** at all opportunities to pass. It can be frustrating for you to be waiting for your opponent to pass and then 30 or so seconds later they type, "Its your attack.". You have to pass/I'm DONE a lot in this game
3) Please wait for additional confirmation beyond "Player X has chosen where to commit their warlord" before flipping your servo skulls over. A simple "I'm ready" or ***Player X is DONE*** will suffice.
4) Beyond this I consider reading the OCTGN etiquette thread founHERE.

Handling Disconnects:
Sometimes disconnects happen (OCTGN will say whether a player leaves on purpose or not). There are a few avenues to pursue here.
1) Wait and see if they get reconnected.
2) Check your cardgamedb message box as they may try to contact you there.
3) If you can't get reconnected have both players check the game state and see if they can agree upon who was ahead and likely to win. If a decision is reached this should be reported as a "win, via in-game concession".
4) If the players cannot reschedule and cannot come to an agreement as to who won then PM me and I will report it as a tie for you.
5) Remember that sometimes by NOT allowing spectators you can minimize your risk of getting disconnected. Don't ask me why this is, it just is. Granted, people do like to spectate matches, but if you know you're prone to disconnects it is better to be safe than sorry!
