***RECAP***
What a season! THANK YOU to all of those who played. It was
great to see such a large turnout to help support this great game - a field of
50 players, 2 divisions and 1 repeat Champion left standing (oh…and a shit ton
of Kith…)
I think, for the most part, darn near every player changed
up their Warlords at least once during the 6-week league season. That said,
once the Top Cut was set no one changed. Dance with the one that brung ya, as
they say.
We had some great matches, many of which were recorded and
commentated by The Hive Tyrant. I know that next year Mitch and I will be
trying to coordinate a “feature table” every week where Mitch can commentate
and record games that look like intriguing matchups.
As expected, Kith dominated. She blew the field away in both
win percentage (76%) and number of games played (50). She also won the whole things (Piloted by Corvus). Other warlord stats of
notes:
·
Eldorath was a strong second, with half (4) of
his losses coming to Kith. He also finished 2nd (piloted by Grendel)
·
Space Marines didn’t fare so well. Lots of games
played but a relatively low win rate
·
Zarathur, as expected, got a huge boost in
appearances. With the meta being so “small unit/swarm attack” based, his
ability for AoE/global damage saw his popularity rise a good bit over last
season. Despite this, he didn’t do all that well, falling between the 2 Space
Marine Warlords in terms of win %. 6 HP when you need to be in a fight isn’t so
great…

Urien actually showed up 3 times…and WON
TWICE!?!?!
·
Straken showed up 5 times….and promptly won
once…
·
Ol’ Zoggy and Baharroth both got a dozen games
in and each finished with a respectable 58% win rate
·
TC Hammer was the least played Warlord….thanks
for representing, Steinerp.
·
No surprise that Ork and AM were the least
played factions
·
Aun’Shi took a dip in popularity, making a
handful of less appearances than he did in the summer despite the field being
much bigger.
·
And of course, the Tyranids made their OCTGN
WAAAGH!!! debut. Swarmlord was the more popular of the 2 but neither made much
noise, nor made a showing in the Top Cut.
Corvus won, again. The guy’s a monster…truly great player. Everyone
who attends Canadian Nationals/GenCon/Worlds (that has hopes of winning these competitive
tournaments) should be glad this guy lives far away, way out in western Canada.
He finished 2nd in the Spring league, won the Summer league, and
followed that up by winning again this Fall.
We had something you’ll never find during March Madness – a 16
seed upsetting the 1 seed! Braindamaged99 finished top in swiss, with his only
loss coming to eventual 10th place finisher Redi_Spades in a tight
Eldorath/Kith matchup, but he met his match against Shadowsun and Glaiveguy in
the first round of the Top Cut.
The Hive Tyrant, despite his all-too-often-self-professed
lack of play experience, went on a hell of a run, making it to the Top 8 and
losing to eventual champ Corvus. Congrats on your 5th place finish,
Mitch!
A special shout out to Jiggy81 and “Temp”Taider54. The Chaos
gods frowned on these guys. They both missed the Top Cut despite a brutal
Strength-of-Schedule. Hold your heads high, gents (and curse me under your
breath).
Thanks to The Hive Tyrant for recording and commentating
games, Saej and Boogers McGee for allowing me to shamelessly plug this league
on their podcast and, also, a big thanks to Sizer, who helped me pay for the printing
of the alt art Warlords
We had a great field – regional champs, national champs,
some big names. I’m really pleased with the skill level of players who showed
up. A lot of you guys went on a tear, a few of us got our brains beat in and
the rest of us did a bit of both. Thanks again and I look forward to an even
better 2016! Let’s keep this game alive and growing!!!
